As one of the world's leading interactive
game development companies, Climax employs over three hundred people
in six offices over five locations
worldwide - Los Angeles, Solent, Brighton, Nottingham,
and two London offices. Having recently expanded considerably,
it was evident that both the internal and external communications
channels required upgrading to reflect the company's strategy as
a global developer.
Syrox was approached to enhance communications and web presence
with the implementation of an enterprise portal solution. It was
envisaged that the solution would not only improve existing web
content but also serve as a communication channel to the media,
games publishers and internal staff.
In order to consolidate information from all six regional offices
and hundreds of game titles with news, press releases and company
information, Syrox developed a flexible content management system
where all aspects of the website's content could be updated by
Climax staff with a minimum of training. Staff can author content
using WYSIWYG editing tools which look and function like familiar
word processing tools, but operate within the browser window for
convenience.
Management
of areas of the website can be delegated to individual teams without
compromising security in other areas. The portal design allows
for a highly extensible layout, site structure and navigation,
with the ability for new sections and pages to be added easily.
Workflow ensures that content is assigned, authored, checked, authorised
and published by the right members of staff, according to simple,
efficient procedural rules. All content in the system is associated
with keywords and content rated, to allow for highly relevant search
results and automatic aggregation of related content.
The website
also has facilities for the management of careers information,
including the posting of jobs and handling of CV submissions,
and allows email newsletters to be created easily and sent to registered
users to act as virtual press packs, and to distribute marketing
information and news. The website automates the handling of images,
screenshots and video using an asset management system that allows
files to be reused consistently and securely.
The solution also features a related Intranet system, providing
similar features to the website but oriented and customised for
internal use by and for Climax staff. The two systems are linked,
but separated by a firewall and a VPN for a completely secure solution.
In addition to content publishing, the Intranet system features
forums and other collaboration tools to facilitate communications
and group working.
